Case Study – Hotwater and Heating

This grunty wood stove not only cooks meals, bakes goodies, and heats water but also runs three radiators when required in the winter. The woodstove wetback makes hot water which is integrated with the solar hot water cylinder on the roof. The cylinder also has an electric element fitted so water can be heated when the generator is running. This gives three options for heating water.

The radiators only take minutes to heat up when the stove is running well and can be turned off at the end of an evening leaving the wood stove to heat water overnight.

While the initial investment in this woodstove was high, it will last a lifetime and is extremely efficient on wood.
